were we not going to decide out of a list of everyone's #1 pick? I thought we numbered our choices from 1 to 5 so that we would first go through all the number 1's in the group and then on to the 2's, 3's, etc. But the list posted by Bradjula compiles all the books into a single list so that no one can determine which was our #1's and so on.

BTW: there's a misspelling in the text at the top underneath the title.

Allow me to clarify the PROPOSED ranking system...

everyone will vote on the TOTAL List in the order they wish (someone may list a book you prefer more than the books you listed) so they will be listed 1-25

then each book will be read chosen as:
-its total ranking of 25
-each person will have one book read from his list before there another book is chosen from the first person's list

so if Kev's books are voted number 1 and 2 from the total 25, we will read #1, #3(unless it's Kev's),#4 (unless it's Kev's), and so on. After 5 books are read, we will then return to Kev's list (#2 overall book) for the 6th book we read.

I hope this was clear enough.

SO, we are ranking each of our lists from one to five? Then we read all #1's, then all #2's, etc etc?? This would seemingly be the best method to me. As far as where we start, when beginning reading the first #1, I suppose alphabetically by boot title or author could work. comments?

I have no idea what Micah just proposed but I do understand Brad. What if we go through our list of books randomly? For example, we take all of our number 1's and then in some devised random method we choose them 1-5. The moderator could make it as simple as drawing straws or asking his fiance' to chose the picks from a hat. This would be great because the system would change up each time we read the list of #1's, 2's, 3's and so on. Does that make sense?

How long should we give Smith before we start?

T, give smitty a call tomorrow (verbal) and let him know the situation of how we are about to begin.. we'll begin ASAP after that.

Start posing your "order of importance to you" list, and when we get the final list, we'll re-post it to take place of the current one.

Here is my ranking order list:
1. The pale blue dot
2. The Creation
3. Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
4. Collapse
5. See no Evil

I like T's idea. We should pick out of everyone's #1's until they're all gone, then the 2's, etc.

I'll call Trav tomorrow. Someone should probably call Cav too (I dont have the number). Let's give these late-comers at least three days to put in their picks if they want in.

My list:
1. The Audacity of Hope
2. The Kite Runner
3. Freakonomics
4. Walden
5. Banker to the Poor

Alright boys here goes,
1.Brave New World, Aldous Huxley
2.The Consolations of Philosophy, Alain de Botton
3.Cat's Cradle, Kurt Vonnegutt
4.Keep the Aspidistra Flying, George Orwell
5.The Corrections, Johnathan Franzen

done and done

Alright, the verdict is in:

1. The Audacity of Hope
2. Candide
3. Suttree
4. Brave New World
5. The Pale Blue Dot

I think Kevin's idea, of one book per month is acceptable.

We'll need whomever's book we're reading (Kev in this case) to set a weekly reading schedule so we're all coming across the same material at the same time.

Once the reading schedule is set, we'll attempt to share ideas, etc. via the blog, up until we meet in person at the end of the reading.

And so it is... I'll be buying the Obama book tomorrow...
